About me

I was lucky enough to know early in life that I wanted to work with adolescents to help them navigate the teenage years, with all its ups and downs. Though I started my career as a teacher in 2011, my work in counselling began in 2019, and I continue to work with adolescents and families as a high school counsellor. This led me to work privately with teenagers, young adults, and parents.

As a registered clinical counsellor (RCC), my approach is trauma-informed, and I draw on several theories of counselling, including family systems, cognitive behavioural, and dialectical behavioural therapies. I use an eclectic range of skills suitable to the needs of my clients and what they are facing.

If you feel ready for change, we can start that conversation together, even if you’re unsure where to begin.

My Approach

Relationship-building
The therapeutic alliance, or the relationship between the client and counsellor, is the most important aspect of counselling. This comes before any therapeutic perspective or lens a counsellor takes and the skills they use. So first and foremost, my goal is to build a solid, trusting, and caring relationship with clients.

Psychoeducation

We often don’t know what we don’t know. Once we know more, we can often do more. Learning generally about the world around us, how and why we function the way we do, typical development, and how we relate to others allows us grow in ways we may not know are possible. Curiosity is a skill that can be developed.

Insight
Getting to know ourselves, how our experiences shape us, our values, and our innermost selves helps us to see the patterns and routines we learn and maintain. Sometimes these patterns were developed consciously to meet a need; other times they grew naturally over time. Insight into and acceptance of these patterns, habits, and routines is necessary before any change can occur.

Growth
When we understand more about the world in general and where we fit in individually, we can grow in conscious ways. We can make more informed decisions about our lives and our relationships with others and ourselves. This approach is one of optimism and empowerment.
